Trees and large plantings in urban environments need more than a standard garden bed. Without adequate soil volume at depth, root systems cannot establish properly, canopy growth is stunted, and plants fail well before they should. Deep soil pits and deep soil zones are the solution, but filling them correctly is a job that standard landscaping equipment handles poorly.
Mega Mulchers works with developers, landscape architects, and civil contractors across Sydney and Melbourne to install growing media into deep soil pits and zones accurately and efficiently. Our blower truck system reaches depths and confined spaces that manual methods simply cannot service to the standard these installations require.
Why the Installation Method Is Critical
A deep soil pit is only as good as what goes into it. Poor fill placement leads to air pockets, uneven compaction, and growing media that does not support root development the way it should. Tipping material in from above and hoping it settles correctly is not a reliable approach, particularly when the pit is narrow, deep, or surrounded by hardscaping that cannot be disturbed.
Our blower system feeds media into the pit at a controlled rate, building up the fill gradually and evenly from the base. There is no need to manually compact or redistribute once the material is in. What goes in is placed correctly the first time, which matters considerably when the pit is being covered by paving or structure shortly after.
Why Choose Mega Mulchers?
- Controlled Fill Placement: The media is placed slowly from the bottom up to eliminate air pockets and provide uniform density throughout the depth of the pit.
- No Hardscape Damage: The truck works outside the installation area, so there is no risk to surrounding paving, kerbs and structures during the process.
- Specification Compliance: We work directly from the landscape architect or arborist’s media specification and do not substitute or approximate without prior confirmation.
- Individual Pits and Large Zones: Single tree pits or continuous deep soil zones running beneath built surfaces- both are well within the scope of what our equipment handles.
- Developer and Civil Project Experience: We regularly work within broader construction programmes, fitting around other trades and meeting the programme deadlines the project requires.
